How to plan an introvert-friendly photo shoot.
Posted on
Are you an introvert? Does the idea of getting your photo taken fill you with absolute dread? Do you really need new brand photos, but you worry that you’ll feel super uncomfortable on the shoot and the experience will be a complete nightmare?
I hear ya. I’m an introvert too.
Here are my top 5 tips to help you plan a brand photo shoot as an introvert, so you can still get the kick-ass photos you need and deserve!
-
Choose the right photographer.
Sounds simple, but make sure the photographer is the right fit for you! Check out their website, socials and if possible, try and meet them in person or have a chat with them. You’ll know pretty quickly if this person is going to make you feel at ease. Finding common ground, chatting and laughing during your shoot won’t only be helpful for relaxing you - it’ll also result in better photos!

Be honest about your feelings!
As a Brighton brand photographer I'm very used to hearing the phrase “I hate having my photo taken.” Getting you over this fear and putting you at ease is part of my job. So please tell your photographer if you’re feeling nervous or unsure, as they are here to help you! We can make things easier by picking a quiet location, having a walk and a chat before we start shooting, or taking a couple of breathers during your shoot.

Wear an outfit that makes you feel like a badass.
When planning your outfits, pick your go-to confidence boosting outfit. The power outfit you always wear when you want to feel like a total badass. The one that really makes you feel like ‘you’. If you don’t normally wear a dress, it’s probably not a good idea to wear a dress to your photo shoot. If you’re a jeans and DMs kind of person, then that’s what you should wear!
-
Work on your mindset.
On the day of your shoot, do whatever you can to get yourself feeling confident and positive. Whether it’s doing some exercise, listening to your favourite playlist, or treating yourself to a coffee and a slice of cake - your mindset will help you ease those nerves and get the most out of your shoot!

Bring something to hold!
A great trick if you’re feeling nervous in front of the camera is to bring a prop to hold. A common question is: “what do I do with my hands?!" Holding something solves this issue and helps you relax into your shoot. Plus props look great in the photos so it’s a win-win! Good props are books, mugs, take-away cups or journals. Or more quirky things like musical instruments, or even your dog!
